âThe Wild Partyâ
It was one of those odd moments of synchronicity in the theatrical world: two new musicals, based on the same source material, debuting in the same season.

The source material was Joseph Moncure Marchâs book-length poem âThe Wild Party,â a depiction of the Roaring 20s-era bash thrown by a pair of show-biz kids, Queenie and Burrs, who invite all their wildly decadent and eccentric friends over an evening of excess that ends in tragedy.
One version was by composer Michael LaChuisa, which played on Broadway for just 68 performances. Andrew Lippaâs version, which at one point included Kristin Chenoweth in the cast as it was being workshopped, enjoyed greater success.
Theatre Pops will present âAndrew Lippaâs The Wild Partâ as the latest of its immersive dinner theater experience shows.
The production stars Tabitha Littlefield as Queenie, Rick Harrelson as Burrs, Andrew Zapata as Black and Kaley Durland as Kate, with Meghan Hurley direction. âThe Wild Partyâ will be staged in and around the audience, putting them right in the middle of the story. Music director Christy Stalcup leads a seven-piece band in swinging songs inspired by the era.
Start the party early with a special four-course dinner before the show, crafted especially for the occasion by Ludgerâs Catering and Events. Deco-inspired cocktails will be served by IDL Ballroom with a decadent backdrop befitting the era.
Performances: 7 p.m. Friday-Feb. 19 and Feb. 24-26, at the IDL Ballroom, 230 E. First St.
Tickets: General admission, $25. Dinner and show, $60. 918-902-6339, theatrepops.org.
