Fernando Torres scored one of the goals of his career but missed a penalty as Atletico Madrid came out on top in one of the games of the season in La Liga.
The former Premier League striker improvised magnificently as he controlled a Yannick Carrasco cross with his back towards goal, flicking the ball up before looping an overhead kick into the top corner.
That was Atletico’s equaliser after Gustavo Cabral had given the visitors a fifth-minute lead.
However, Torres turned from hero to zero when he fluffed his lines from the spot on the half-hour mark.
The veteran Spaniard stepped up after teammate Carrasco was fouled in the area but his powerful penalty rattled the crossbar and came back out.
It appeared as though the miss would prove costly to Diego Simeone’s side as they went behind in the 78th minute to a goal scored by John Guidetti.
However, two goals in two minutes from Carrasco and Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann turned the game on it’s head and sealed an important three points for Diego Simeone’s side.
