A MAJOR shopping street was closed this afternoon after a suspect package was found at Hamleys. The world famous toy store was evacuated and Regent Street cordoned off for about 30 minutes. Fatma Karaman, 29, who lives in London, told the Standard: “I have asked the police and they told me that it was a false call. “I have heard the Hamleys staff talking about the unattended stroller.” Another witness said: “We were shopping in there and the fire alarms went off. “The store was hurriedly evacuated and when we got outside there were police vans and sirens and a cordon.” Regent Street was reopened about 3.30pm. The Met Police confirmed cops were called to reports of a “suspicious item”.
