ANALYSIS/OPINION: Mike Flynn, who resigned his national security adviser post for President Donald Trump under a cloud of suspicion about his talks with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, wants to tell his story to Congress, but wants immunity first. Give it. He should have it. He has information that’s pertinent to America but the political atmosphere is so toxic now he’d be crazy — anybody would be crazy — to present it without first getting a guarantee that he’s not going to be bitten by the hands he’s feeding. “Gen. Flynn certainly has a story to tell and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” said Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner, in a statement late Thursday. “No reasonable person who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution.” The Democrats are trying to make a whole thing out of Flynn’s comment of last year that “when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime.” And rightly so — if the tables were turned, Republicans would be making the same waves, using that same comment to score political points by suggesting, as Democrats are doing, Flynn’s current request for immunity holds deeper meaning.
