Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar
It was one of the most memorable sights in Rogue One.
Despite the rather obvious resemblances to Minus Morgul and even Sauron’s own tower in Mordor in The Lord of the Rings, Darth Vader’s lair has quickly become an iconic Star Wars location.
Lucasfilm Vice President and Executive Creative Director Doug Chiang has just given fans new hope that we will be seeing a lot more of the menacing home of the Sith Lord.

Kylo Ren with Darth Vader’s helmet
When will we see it again and why? Who will be there?
Who is the person most obsessed with Darth Vader? That’s correct, surely we will see Kylo Ren making a siritual pilgrimage to the home of his idol and hero?
We already know that he communes with Vader’s burned helmet and we suspect that Kylo will soon receive Vader’s lightsaber from another major character.
Will we see Kylo visit Mustafar on a new mission or as part of one of the various flashback sequences that have been reported in The Last Jedi leaks?
Chiang told UPROXX that Vader built the castle “for a very specific reason. It was to come back here to meditate, to rejuvenate, to reconnect with himself.
“It became a very spiritual place, and it was all centered around his bacta tank. And that’s where the form language all built around there. And we’ve done quite a bit of exploration of what’s on the inside of it (the castle) as well, and hopefully that’ll be seen in some other film.”
Some other film like The Last Jedi, perhaps?
Vader’s bactatank in his castle on Mustafar
Vader built the castle on the planet where he suffered his great defeat to Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is the place where he lost his limbs and was terribly burned. It may be strange place to want to live, but it symbolises the final transformation of Anakin into Vader.
Kylo Ren is fixated on continuing Vader’s legacy and wilfully disregards any aspect of Anakin. It is logical that he will seek inspiration (and possibly Vader’s lightsaber) on Mustafar.
We have seen him desperate to make contact with the ghost of Vader, perhaps he will travel to the castle to make one last attempt?
Or perhaps there is someone equally evil waiting there for him?
One of the most intriguing theories currently in circulation is that Snoke is already on Mustafar. We have seen him on a monstrous rock throne and where better for that than a monstrous castle?
However the most prevalent reports currently place Snoke on an as-yet-unnamed red planet covered in snow. So it seems that there is a snowball’s chance in hell that volcanic Mustafar and its rivers of lava is the hiding place of the First Order leader.
Even so, we expect Kylo Ren to stalk the castle halls like his grandfather before long.
