Starkey’s Mailbag: Should Steelers go after Victor Cruz or Anquan Boldin? – WBNews

Welcome to Joe Starkey’s weekly mailbag, where the Post-Gazette columnist and 93.7 The Fan radio host answers your questions about sports, life, Buffalo, Bob Dylan and everything in between. If you want to ask Joe a question, tweet him @JoeStarkey1 or email him at [email protected]. On to the questions: Matthew Mirandy, @IronMirandy: Victor Cruz to the Steelers???? Starkey: I seriously doubt it, Mr. @IronMirandy (is there an @IronMirandy Light?), considering Cruz’s recent history. He missed all of 2015 after playing in just six games in 2014 and caught just 39 passes (one touchdown) this past season (including none against the Steelers) before the Giants released him. Cruz has probably forgotten how to Salsa by now. Besides which, if he’s looking to rack up numbers, joining the Conga line of Steelers receivers at age 30 probably isn’t his best bet. I don’t care that Boldin, 36, lacks YAC (he averaged a sickly 8.7 yards per catch this past season with the Lions). What I do care about is that he remains a combat-catch warrior who reeled in 70 percent of the passes thrown his way, including a team-leading eight touchdowns, and converted 20 third-down passes into first downs. I also care that he is the consummate professional. The Steelers are beset by youth and immaturity at the receiver position….more detail
